“SERA” by Henrik Hellstenius, National Opera of Warsaw, Poland

The modernist opera is about silence… I tried to visualize the dynamics of silence in a video work presented on monitors in the auditorium before the performance: we see large blocks of stone falling and breaking in slow motion. When the light goes up on the stage we see the same large stone blocks suspended in the air as in a frozen moment of time. – A silent moment before the sound. The costumes suggests an archaic time; – a time before the stone fell down…
